Vintage and Swoon in Sturbridge, MA, is a thoughtfully curated vintage and modern concept shop offering high-quality home goods, handmade products, and unique vintage finds. Offering a mix of furniture, clothing, and interior décor, the shop blends timeless charm with contemporary style. We spoke with the owner, Mallory Stanton, about what visitors can expect to find at the shop as well as upcoming developments.
Q: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind Vintage & Swoon and how it came to be?
A: From an early age, I enjoyed decorating – I used to rearrange my bedroom over and over, dreaming up a new look and feel for my small space. The furniture in my childhood home was mostly made up of antiques passed down from generations. I’ve always appreciated the character and charm of older pieces. Once I had my own place to decorate, I discovered the thrill of hunting for beautiful pre-loved objects with a story to tell. I became obsessed with the hunt, scouring for rare finds and building my collection. This passion led to Vintage and Swoon.
Q: How do you curate your collection, and what makes it unique compared to other stores?
A: Each piece in my collection is hand-picked, intentional and an expression of my personal style. Vintage and Swoon is a place for me to play creatively and showcase my evolving collections. I draw a lot of inspiration from European interior design – French, Spanish and English homes.
Q: For those planning to visit Sturbridge, why should Vintage & Swoon be on their must-visit list?
A: Our little shop is nestled in an old carriage house and is surrounded by large barn wood beams and wide plank hardwood floors. It is very unique; along with a curated eclectic mix of vintage clothing, homewares and furniture, we also have a carefully selected section of vinyl, physical media, collectible sneakers and streetwear. My fiancé, James and I have combined our passions under one roof for a special shopping experience. Visitors are always surprised and excited to see the two aspects together – they seem to like the idea. We have a little something for everyone.
Q: What is your mission?
A: My mission is to connect people with much-loved keepsakes that they will cherish. When you step into my shop, I want you to feel inspired to dream up a vision for your home that is authentic to who you are. Adding meaningful pieces to your space allows you to create a unique sanctuary that is lived in and loved. Another part of my mission is offering one-of-a-kind vintage clothing, home decor and furniture pieces at affordable price points. Lastly, my goal is to give new life to items that otherwise may have ended up in a landfill. By re-using what is already in circulation, we can reduce waste and enjoy a more sustainable lifestyle.
Q: Is there anything exciting coming up in the future?
A: We’re gearing up for the Brimfield Antique Flea Market happening in May as well as the “Curated Vintage Market at Bow” in Boston, MA happening in June. We plan to add more vintage markets to our calendar this summer. We will announce any upcoming markets on our Instagram, @vintageandswoon. You can also find our collections at Crompton Collective in Worcester and District V House in Sutton, MA.
Q: What does being a part of the Sturbridge community mean to you?
A: We love Sturbridge and we’re proud to call it home. With its charm and history, this town has a lot to offer. We are lucky to be surrounded by a great deal of amazing restaurants, breweries, and small shops. We’ve met so many kind-hearted locals and tourists who have embraced Vintage and Swoon. Getting to know my customers has been one of my favorite parts of owning a shop. Witnessing visitors enjoy their experience and appreciate something I’ve put my heart into is very special to me. I’ve also enjoyed connecting with other local shop owners and collaborating on special events for the community. It’s important for us to support each other in any way we can.
Q: What are your favorite places to visit or things to do in Sturbridge when you’re not at the store?
A: When I’m not at the store, I enjoy perusing our small local shops and visiting Sturbridge Coffee House for lunch and my afternoon latte. I also love catching up with friends over a couple of drinks at Rapscallion.
