Fall militia musters often saw the various militia companies of several towns coming together for a regimental muster. These would have been grand spectacles with townspeople coming out to view visiting militia companies in their dashing uniforms. Come and join us for our fall muster day and cheer on your favorite militia company! \n\nTalk to members of two uniformed volunteer militia companies.\nListen to early 19th-century martial music.\nWatch musket and cannon firing demonstrations\nSee a “Sham Fight” as rival militia companies square off against each other in the field.\nOur young visitors will get the chance to learn early 19th-century drill and marching with the militia officer’s instruction and a toy gun.\nSee the “striped pig” and learn how it was used to skirt the early 19th-century liquor laws.\nJoin a group of ladies for “Ardent Spirits” as they discuss their concerns about temperance\, how alcohol affects them and their families\, and if starting a Ladies Temperance Society in Sturbridge is a good idea.\n\nSee more\, get tickets: www.osv.org/event/muster-day-september/

Visitors can not only explore our exhibits\, galleries\, and demonstrations and talk with our costumed historians about everyday life in early New England\, but also tour the camps\, witness recreated skirmishes and battles\, see special presentations\, and enjoy fife and drum music. \nDaytime events on both days of Redcoats & Rebels include activities such as: \n\nMock battles and skirmishes\nTours of the British and American camps\nCannon demonstrations\nMusket drilling with kids\nMartial music\nDrilling and inspection of the troops\nSee the daily life of a Revolutionary War soldier – including delivery of uniforms\, pay calls\, and prisoner exchanges\nAnd more!\n\nPlease Note: Due to the popularity of Redcoats and Rebels\, we ask that visitors purchase tickets with arrival blocks in order to spread out the arrival of visitors coming through the Visitor Center. \nAlso\, it’s Kids Free Summer at the Village!  Up to three kids 17 and younger are admitted FREE when accompanied by an adult paying full admission ($28) now through the end of Labor Day (September 5\, 2022).

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 11th and Sunday\, June 12th. How did 19th century women see themselves? How did society view the woman’s sphere? How do we view their lives today? Join Old Sturbridge Village as we acknowledge and celebrate extraordinary and everyday women in the early 19th century. Stop outside the historic houses of OSV to learn about how women ran their households\, managing the essential work of clothes construction\, cooking\, laundry\, and more. Join interpreters in the gardens for talks on indigenous plants\, medicine\, and discussions on the roles of women and children in gardening. Beyond the domestic sphere\, we will explore issues surrounding gender\, freedom\, and rights occurring during the 1830s through readings of first-person accounts from the 19th century.

DESCRIPTION:Calling all Scouts and Families! Join us for a unique camping experience in the countryside of Old Sturbridge Village! On Saturday\, June 11\, Cub and Boy Scouts\, Girl Scouts\, and their families are invited to pitch their tents in the Village and enjoy an evening of tours and activities throughout the museum. The evening will be topped off with stories by a roaring bonfire. Not a scout? No problem: all families are welcome! \nParticipants will enjoy a barbeque dinner and a hot breakfast in the morning. Two-day admission to the Village is included.  Registration required by Friday June 3rd.
