Today\, it’s considered one of the oldest Italian-American holiday traditions. \nChef Rico will be preparing many of the dishes that make this special dinner a perennial favorite but will also be adding a few new twists to keep it interesting and fresh. The hike will be a loop of 2 miles of easy/moderate hiking and should take about an hour and a half. DESCRIPTION:The Barn at Wight Farm will host Splash of Zan. With an avid local following\, Splash of Zan always puts on an fun show as the band plays your favorites from the 70’s\, 80’s\, and 90’s. The group is comprised of area natives David Wright (guitar) and Suzanne Wright (lead vocals)\, Dave Penttila (bass)\, Peter Jarzabski (drums)\, and Lana Pieczynski (keyboards). During the show\, the band reveals just how much they love to play together… it can be hard to tell who’s having more fun—the band or the crowd. \nDoors open at 7pm\, cash bar available\, and the music starts at 8:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:Step back in time and explore the rich history and lasting impact of Victory Gardens in this engaging presentation hosted by the Sturbridge Historical Society and the Southbridge Garden Club. Led by Debra Dellanina-Alvarez of Saved by the Garden\, the program delves into life during World War I and World War II\, highlighting how communities came together through gardening efforts and the valuable knowledge shared among volunteers. Attendees will gain insight into what was grown\, how it was cultivated\, and how those practices continue to influence gardening today. \nThe presentation also features a virtual visit to the oldest Victory Garden in the United States\, examining its historical significance and modern relevance. Along the way\, participants will explore a variety of garden plots\, uncovering unique architectural elements\, fascinating plant histories\, and lesser-known details that bring these spaces to life. \nDebra Dellanina-Alvarez brings a diverse background as a lifelong gardener\, healthcare provider\, program designer\, and speaker. With a passion for nature\, history\, architecture\, and science\, she has worked as an architectural and history guide with Boston by Foot and designed immersive walking tours\, including her seasonal Art\, Architecture and Gardens experience. Her time as a teacher naturalist at Massachusetts Audubon’s Drumlin Farm further reflects her dedication to environmental education. In 2019\, she founded Saved by the Garden\, where she continues to develop engaging programs that highlight significant garden spaces and their unique features. \nThis program offers a thoughtful look at an important chapter in American history through the lens of gardening and community. Open to the public\, the event is graciously hosted by the Publick House.
